Jules Naudet, Gedeon Naudet, and James
Hanlon
Jules and Gedeon Naudet were born in Paris, France. They moved to New York in 1989 to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts. They graduated in 1995 majoring in film and television.
During the following years, Jules and Gedeon worked for various production companies including The Sundance Channel as well as the French TV station Canal+.
In 2000, Jules and Gedeon released "Hope, Gloves and Redemption," their first feature-length documentary. "Hope, Gloves and Redemption" is about two boxing trainers, husband and wife, who have dedicated their lives to saving kids from drugs, gangs and violence through the discipline of amateur boxing.
James Hanlon was raised in the Bronx and is a 10-year veteran firefighter in the FDNY. For the past 15 years, James Hanlon has been an actor, performing in over 25 plays both regionally and in New York. He has also been seen on network television, including guest-starring roles on 'NYPD Blue,' 'Law and Order,' 'Brooklyn South,' New York Undercover' and '100 Center Street.'
In the spring of 2001, Jules, James and Gedeon started a production of a documentary on the FDNY, that followed a young firefighter during his nine month probationary period. On September 11th, while following the rescue efforts inside the World Trade Center and capturing the true values of firefighters, the documentary became the journey of a firefighter through the most tragic days in FDNY history. Shown on CBS in the spring of 2002, "9/11" was broadcast in 134 countries on September 11th 2002. "9/11" was awarded the Emmy and the Peabody Award for best documentary.
From the very beginning, the documentary has been used to raise funds for the Uniformed Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund.
A letter from the honorees
We want to thank you so much for the honor of making us part of the 2nd Annual Uniformed Firefighters Celebrity Golf Benefit. As you know, the UFA Scholarship Fund has been the driving force behind our documentary "9/11". Ever since Ed Burke and the UFA Board told us about the Fund in December 2001, we have been dedicated to raising money and bring exposure to this great cause.
What appealed to us the most was the broad nature of the Fund and the fact that all firefighter's families could benefit from it. The fund will remain a testimony to the brotherhood of the FDNY. We are very much looking forward to this great event.
Best regards,
James Hanlon, Jules & Gedeon Naudet
