Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first ever New York City Uniformed Firefighters Association Celebrity Golf Benefit. This benefit will generate funds for the UFA Widows' and Children's Fund and the UFA Scholarship Fund.

The FDNY lost 343 Firefighters on September 11, and more than 500 kids lost their Firefighter dads that tragic day. These funds are now charged with the tremendous task of helping thousands of children of deceased and active New York City Firefighters.

On September 11, ironically, I was on this golf course when my cell phone rang early that Tuesday morning. A friend in Manhattan called to tell me a plane hit one of the World Trade Center Towers. While on the phone, I could actually hear the sound of the second plane hit.

I left the course, went home to get my gear, jumped on my Harley, and went to the Duane Street firehouse. From there I proceeded down to what is now known in our history books, as Ground Zero.

After spending many weeks down at the World Trade Center site, I realized there would be a very long road of recovery ahead for all of us. For me , I am trying to raise money for the families of our fallen Firefighters by playing golf with many of you at this special event.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Mayor Robert Bernstein, the Board of Trustees and the Golf Commission of the Village of Lake Success for making this tournament a reality. To all our volunteers, who have given their time and talents, and to all those who have generously donated to our effort, thank you for making this Golf Benefit a success.

Above all, I would like to thank you, our supporters and participants.

Please relax, have fun, and enjoy your day at the Village Club at Lake Success.

Sincerely,

Guy Warren
